[news] Oguri becomes charming brother
Oguri Shun and Kawashima Umika will appear in a new set of TV ads for an instant soup brand. Oguri has been appearing in the same brand’s commercials from 2007. Kawashima will play the role of Oguri’s sister. She sounded really taken with her ‘brother’ 12 years older than her. “I’ve always dreamed of having such a charming brother!”
In the new commercials, one morning the sister wakes up late and frantically gets ready to go to school. The brother hands her a bowl of warm soup saying “Before you go, at least drink some soup.” The TV ads show the sister being moved by her brother’s kindness, while their grandmother (played by Ikeuchi Junko) gently watches the two from a short distance away. The commercials are meant to express the warmth that permeates through everyday interactions between family members.
Oguri commented about Kawashima like he was her real brother. “If I had such a cute sister, I would always be worried about her.” Kawashima smiled and replied “He is my ideal brother!” Both of them seemed to have enjoyed the filming.

[news] Shun Oguri's 'Tajomaru' Film to Spawn Anime, Manga
Shun Oguri's Tajomaru Film to Spawn Anime, Manga [July 7]:

Illustrator Ippei Gyoubu is developing the groundwork for anime and manga spinoffs based on Tajomaru, the newest live-action film adaptation of Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's "In a Grove" samurai short story with actor Shun Oguri (Gokusen, Hana Yori Dango [2005], Densha Otoko, Crows Zero, Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie). The announcement of the proposed anime and manga was made at the July 5 press conference which marked the completion of the live-action film in Tokyo. Oguri, Yuki Shibamoto, Kei Tanaka, Kyosuke Yabe, Hiroki Matsukata, director Hiroyuki Nakano, and producer Mataichiro Yamamoto appeared at the event.
"In a Grove" inspired several Japanese and American films, including Akira Kurosawa's Rashōmon film which received an Honorary Oscar. The "Tajomaru" of the new film's title is the same Tajomaru bandit character that Rashōmon's acclaimed actor Toshirō Mifune made famous, but Oguri's role will add a twist to the identity of the Tajomaru character.
Gyoubu is adapting the cast of the 'Tajomaru' film into characters for anime and manga. Yabe, who plays the bandit leader Michikane, remarked on how Gyoubu's drawings made his character look stylish and tall, so Oguri immediately replied with a laugh that the drawings were a little too good-looking for Yabe. The rock duo B'z are performing the film's theme song "Pray."

[news] Shun had a temporary memory loss during filming of 'Tajomaru'!
Oguri Loses Memory While Filming ‘TAJOMARU’? [Sept 14, 2009]:
The actor Oguri Shun made an astonishing revelation about an incident that happened during the filming of the movie ‘TAJOMARU’, in which he plays the lead character. He talked about how he suffered memory loss by becoming too engrossed in his role.
What sort of acting brought about the incident? What kind of scene was it?
Oguri went into detail about the stunning experience.
The whole filming of the movie ‘TAJOMARU’ took two months. Since there was no time to go back to Tokyo, everyone stayed near the filming location. Oguri said it was an ideal environment to concentrate on acting.
The ‘memory-losing experience’ occurred when they were filming a scene that takes place in an ice-cold mountain. The heroine Ako-hime/Princess Ako, who was feeling hopeless about a bleak situation, tries to die by throwing herself into a swamp. Oguri’s character tries to stop her.
The main character played by Oguri does all he can to save his most beloved person from drowning in a deep swamp.
Oguri went over the things he can recall about that scene. “The director said ‘Aaand, action!’ I remember everything up to the point where I started running towards Ako. Then, the next thing I knew I was taking a bath.”
He said he could not remember a thing about what actually took place during that scene.
Immediately after Oguri finished wading in minus zero degrees Celsius swamp waters, the staff plunged him into a hot tub placed nearby.
That was when he finally recognized that the filming of the scene was over.
“At that point I recovered my senses. But tears started welling up of their own accord…”
It was a sign that he had truly become one with the character.
Oguri happily commented about the experience. “It was the first time that sort of thing happened to me. I never had thought I could become so focused on my role. That was a really good moment.” A few days after he had filmed the swamp scene, he received even more unexpected news.
“I later found out that the scene didn’t make the final cut. That was too bad, but those sorts of things happen when editing films.” Oguri smiled, but somewhat ruefully.
Oguri Shun fans will no doubt love to watch the scene. Let’s hope it’s included in the DVD version.
The movie ‘TAJOMARU’ is set in medieval Japan, and is about a man who first leads an easy life by being the second born son of a prestigious family. But after experiencing a slew of betrayals for loving a certain woman too much, he eventually becomes the great robber Tajomaru. The life of Tajomaru is vividly and stylishly depicted by the director Nakano Hiroyuki.
In a beautiful scene Oguri screams at the top of his lungs with tears steaming down his face. Those sorts of powerful performances could be seen throughout the movie, and is bound to move the audience!
With each new movie, actor Oguri Shun seems to leap to new heights. His memory loss incident is an example of how much Oguri was concentrated on his role. The film is definitely worth a try.

This was shocking! I've always known Shun is very dedicated to his work, but gosh! He sure sounded like he was so absorbed in this new role he actually lost his memory (temporarily)!
It's a pity that the scene didn't make the final cut, especially after all the effort Shun and the rest of the cast & crew put into filming it, heck, Shun even lost his memory for the sake of that scene! I really would've loved to have seen this scene!
With all the hype, and Shun's brilliance as an actor, this movie will definitely be worth watching! The official release of the movie is this Saturday nationwide...although I think there were special advanced screenings of it shown on the 12th and yesterday in Japan.
[news] Shun's younger sister in 'TOKYO DOGS'
Young talent Kawaguchi Haruna (14), who gained a lot of popularity with her recent "Mitsui Rehouse" and "Pokari Sweat" commercials, will make her full-fledged actress debut in the highly anticipated next Fuji TV - Monday 09pm dorama "Tokyo DOGS". This role is going to mark her first big step into the world of acting and it’s definitely a great chance to play alongside great actors such as Oguri Shun (26) in the starring role. For her debut she is going to play the younger sister of Oguri’s character, but she’s definitely not going to settle for side roles. "I’ll work hard in order to someday be able to return to the Monday-09pm slot as the starring actress!"
"Tokyo DOGS" is going to be the first original detective dorama in that prestigious dorama time slot. The dorama is going to feature a "ikemen tag team" as they call it, played by Oguri Shun and Mizushima Hiro (25). Oguri is going to be more of a reserved cop from the New York Police Department with a great training and potential, but no will to use it. The murder of his father is the only reason why he became a cop and why he moved to New York. Mizushima is definitely going to be the bad cop of the two, he used to be in a biker gang himself and knows all kinds of martial-arts. The chemistry between them is something to look forward, it will hold enough room for serious and funny moments.
As said above, Kawaguchi is going to play the younger sister of Oguri’s character, a big deal for such a young and fresh actress. Only 2 years ago she entered the world of show business by becoming an exclusive model for the teen fashion magazine "NICOLA" and now she’s also going to appear in a dorama at prime time.
"I was really happy and surprised when I got the offer! Oguri-san and Mizushima-san, I love them both a lot! I’m the youngest of 3 sisters, so I always wanted to have an older brother." She commented with sparkling eyes.

Now with Kawaguchi Haruna added to the cast, it gives me another reason to watch the drama, I like Haruna, she's so kawaii! Not only is this a great opportunity for her to star alongside Shun-kun, but this will really open a lot of new doors for her in the future career wise.
All the best to Shun, Haruna, Hiro and the rest of the cast & crew!
[News] New role for Shun!

Oguri, Mizushima star in Fuji TV cop drama [25/8/2009]:
Fuji TV has unveiled its next Monday night drama series. Tentatively titled "Tokyo DOGS ~Saiaku de Saikou no Partner~," the show will feature popular actors Shun Oguri (26) and Hiro Mizushima (25) teaming up as police detectives.
"Tokyo DOGS" will be the first true police drama to air in Fuji TV's Monday 9:00pm time slot. This is also the first time for either actor to be cast in that time slot.
Oguri has the starring role as Sou Takakura, who witnessed his father's murder at a young age. Pledging to catch the killer, he grows up to become an elite cop in New York City, where the criminal lives. His character is cool-headed and disciplined, yet adapts well. Because of major drug dealings, he gets sent to Tokyo to conduct a joint investigation with the Japanese police. There, he gets teamed up with a detective from a special investigative division (Mizushima).
Mizushima's character is a hot-blooded fighting expert due to his earlier days as a delinquent, but he makes a strong impression with his stylish appearance and is always interested in going on group dates. His personality, interests, and investigation methods are completely mismatched with Oguri's, but the two somehow work together to crack the case they've been given.
Cast in the heroine role is Yuriko Yoshitaka (21), playing a mysterious woman who holds the key to the case, though she has lost part of her memory due to trauma. Her relationship to the two actors will also be one of the drama's key points.
"Tokyo DOGS" will premiere this October.

I'm also excited to see him working with Mizushima Hiro again, after 'Hanazakari no Kimitachi e'!
[News] Is Oguri Shun a Hard Drinker!? Fellow Cast Members Reveal Oguri’s True Self
In the new movie ‘TAJOMARU’, Oguri Shun becomes Tajomaru, a leader of a group of thieves. His costars talked about a less known side of Oguri.
In the film the group of 4 robbers loot and pillage during the day, then enjoy partying at night. But a similar gathering had been going on right after the filming sessions.
The members talked fondly about the nightly ‘banquet’, where they drank themselves silly.
“At first we were just enjoying a few drinks! But we eventually began to realize that the drinking could go on for ages until someone collapses…from then on it became a battle over who should go over the brink.”
All the members said that Oguri had been the head honcho of this merry mayhem.
“[Oguri] Shun will go around telling each of us to drink more. But when someone suggests Shun to drink, he’ll say he already had enough (laugh). In the end, instead of the five of us drinking together, it clearly become a ‘fight’ of four versus one.”
Apparently Oguri continued to be Tajomaru not just on but off the screen as well.
“Us for and the thieves are essentially the same.
Why did the burglars fight alongside Tajomaru to the death?
It’s because when drinking with Tajomaru you have such a great time! It’s the same with Shun. It’s fun to drink with him.
That’s why he is the leader in the film, and also why he leads us even when we’re not filming!”

When I read the headline, I initially thought this was going to be yet another ridiculous rumor about Shun's drinking, I'm glad it's nothing negative!
Looking forward to the movie!
[News] Is Yamada and Oguri’s Relationship Still Going Strong?
On August 6th in Tokyo the fashion model/actress Yamada Yu (25) attended the press conference of the musical ‘RENT’, which will be shown in Japan (From August 7th to 30th at Tokyo’s Akasaka ACT Theater). ‘RENT’ is a wildly popular musical that became a long running hit in Broadway. The moving piece of work is about the lives of a group of young men and women who work hard to meet their goals, while seriously expressing their love for others each in their own unique way. Yamada has been a big fan of the musical, and seemed very excited to meet the cast members such as Adam Pascal (38) in person.
With tears welling in her eyes she said that when the show came to the scene where the cast sang ‘Seasons of Love’, “I almost cried. From now on I’m going to treasure and cherish each day of my life.” Yamada has begun dating actor Oguri Shun (26). When asked “Are you going to go see the musical with him?” she answered “I don’t think so.” While replying she subtly flashed her ring on her finger. The reporters then asked “How’s it going with him? Are you doing fine?” Yamada replied in the affirmative, and for good measure also made an ‘OK sign’ with her fingers.

Good to know that their relationship is still going strong, all the best to them.
[News] Everyone wants to be Shun's heroine!
Everyone wants to be Shun's heroine [August 3, 2009]:
Popular and young actor Oguri Shun (26) wants to try out what it’s like to be the director of a movie and wants to start his new career move with a bang. It’s said to become a big-budget movie project, with the filming already starting this summer and a release some time next year.
However, he stills seems to lack a heroine for his movie and the casting doesn’t seem to be as easy as he thought, an executive of a major entertainment agency now revealed. "Frankly everyone wants to be in a movie directed by Shun, all of the big actresses are trying to get in contact with him one after another." Among them there are names like Nagasawa Masami or Ueto Aya who are more than eager to be his heroine.
"Selecting the starring actressed turned out to be quite a difficult task to undertake and we already fell behind the schedule because of that. The reason behind it is easy, both Nagasawa and Ueto want to get that role no matter what. Shun is already frustrated and doesn’t know who would be the better choice for his movie."
Now that’s another topic, but that frustration could also be because of his sweetheart Yamada Yuu. The other day he attended a PR-Event for his newest movie "Tajomaru" and on the occasion of the Star Festival (Festival of the Weaver), he expressed his wish… "I want to become free." Some dorama staff people of a major TV station heard that Yamada seems to be quite oppressive and keeps him on a short leash. Apparently it looks like that he wants to free himself from her… or at least get a longer leash?
No matter who he is going to choose, one person is always going to be the jealous one and that’s neither just Nagasawa nor Ueto. "Yamada is going to be quite jealous, don’t you think? She’s probably always going to suspect that there is something going on between him and the starring actress."
The announcement of the cast should be revealed soon, unless he can allow himself to fall behind the schedule even more. He can’t be blamed, there’s just too many great actresses out there…

lol I'm not the least bit surprised about this, how could anyone be?
Although I hope the actress he chooses to play his "heroin" is Mao-chan, since I'm such a avid fan of Shumao! They have such un-deniably wonderful chemistry!
But I have a feeling it's going to be either Ueto Aya or Nagasawa Masami....among these 2, I hope he chooses Ueto Aya, at least they have good chemistry and are very familiar with each other since they've worked together quite a few times before.
There's just something about Nagasawa Masami that just irritates me.
Well, either way, I hope Shun all the best for his upcoming new movie, ganbatte!
