[news] Oguri Quits Being CEO for Another Job?

Oguri Quits Being CEO for Another Job? [30/9/09]:

The actors Oguri Shun, Asano Tadanobu, Miyazawa Rie and Eita are all appearing in the same commercial series for the chocolate snack ‘OTONA GLICO'. In the TV ads the actors play the roles of the various characters that appear in the popular anime ‘サザエさん / Sazae-san', but with a twist. The commercials portray the characters 25 years into the future (thus the series are dubbed ‘Isono family [last name of main character] 25 years later'). In the newest version Ikura-chan (Oguri), who is a CEO of an IT-related company, starts a conversation with Tara-chan (Eita). While chatting on Ikura-chan's private jet, Ikura-chan suggested he is contemplating a job change. Viewers are bound to be interested in the outcome.

In the above mentioned scene Ikura-chan says “Okay, let's go on our last flight.” He and Tara-chan go on board, and eventually fly past the Isono residence. From the plane Tara-chan manages to find Ikura-chan's brother and sister, although they are only the size of peas. “Hey! That's Katsuo [brother] and Wakame [sister]. Whoa, Katsuo let go of his bat [and made it sail off into the air].”
As with all the other versions, the TV ad ends with Katsuo messing up while practicing baseball. The portrayal of peaceful everyday lives matches the style of the original anime.

If one looks closely at the latest version, it is possible to see how much the staff paid attention to detail. The pilot uniform worn by Ikura-chan has the words ‘Ikura' printed on them, and his badge is made out of ‘ikura'. [‘Ikura; イクラ' is salmon roe] Eita was especially impressed. “Above all, that ikura badge is superb.” Oguri agreed, and said it was one of his favorite items too. “Yeah. I can feel the staff's love.”

[news] Oguri becomes charming brother

Oguri becomes charming brother [26/9/2009]:

Oguri Shun and Kawashima Umika will appear in a new set of TV ads for an instant soup brand. Oguri has been appearing in the same brand’s commercials from 2007. Kawashima will play the role of Oguri’s sister. She sounded really taken with her ‘brother’ 12 years older than her. “I’ve always dreamed of having such a charming brother!”

In the new commercials, one morning the sister wakes up late and frantically gets ready to go to school. The brother hands her a bowl of warm soup saying “Before you go, at least drink some soup.” The TV ads show the sister being moved by her brother’s kindness, while their grandmother (played by Ikeuchi Junko) gently watches the two from a short distance away. The commercials are meant to express the warmth that permeates through everyday interactions between family members.

Oguri commented about Kawashima like he was her real brother. “If I had such a cute sister, I would always be worried about her.” Kawashima smiled and replied “He is my ideal brother!” Both of them seemed to have enjoyed the filming.

Ratings update (Sept 27)

finally here's the ratings update on Tenchijin (took long enough), average rating for ep 38 was 20% exactly.
Ep 39 will air tonight.

Luckily we don't have to worry about rating competition anymore...Tenchijin's biggest and only rival drama 'Kyumei Byojo 24 Ji' season 4 has ended with average ratings overall of 19.1%, and its highest ever rating was 20.3% for ep 1, after that it never hit 20% again...so its ratings have not been as high as Tenchijin's.
And now with biggest rival out of the way, there's no other dramas currently airing that poses a "threat" to Tenchijin ratings wise, therefore it seems its title of 'highest rating drama' since it started airing (which was way back in January) is safe. The drama will air till November 22!

[news] Scissors-paper-rock with Oguri Shun!

Scissors-paper-rock with Oguri Shun [Sept 24, 2009]:

小栗旬/Oguri Shun appeared for the release event of his new movie 『TAJOMARU』. The movie is about Tajomaru, who is a famous thief through generations. Associated with that, Scissors-paper-rock game was held with male audiences only. The winner was given 浪切の剣/Namikiri no ken(ken=sword) which was actually used in the movie with Tajomaru's name on. The winner of all was a guy who came with his wife living in Tokyo. He said he came because his wife asked, and got a chance to participate for the photo session with /Oguri and others. By the way, /Oguri who probably was into his character Tajomaru who never tried to abandon women, said to the winner, "be happy with your wife and make her happy" with smiling.

take my word for it, this sequel is just as awesome as the first movie! And Shun was even more kakkoi than in the 1st!
I love both movies so much, but I have to admit that I love this sequel a little bit more than the 1st movie! Probably because the first movie was mainly just introducing the main characters, and focusing on Genji trying to take over Suzuran high school...so there wasn't very much going on.
But in this sequel, not only does Genji have to try and mend the division in Suzuran high, he is still having troubles bringing everyone together, but he also has to deal with a rival school Housen Gakuen. The whole rivalry between both schools dates back for years, and because of a serious dilemma Genji got himself and Suzuran into by 'unconsciously' breaking the 2-years old "truce" between the schools, now both schools are at war again. There's also a past story behind the whole severity of the war between the 2 schools. So there's much more going on in this sequel, and it's more exciting! Therefore, I felt the sequel is better and more interesting than the 1st! So it's definitely a MUST watch! Especially if you loved the 1st movie!

CZII aside...about the Tenchijin ratings, unfortunately there's still no updates on it, so we'll probably have to wait till tomorrow to find out what the rating was for ep 38.

[news] Shun Oguri's 'Tajomaru' Film to Spawn Anime, Manga

Gomen, I know this news is 2 months old...but I only read about it just now!

Shun Oguri's Tajomaru Film to Spawn Anime, Manga [July 7]:
tajomarupresscon.jpg

Illustrator Ippei Gyoubu is developing the groundwork for anime and manga spinoffs based on Tajomaru, the newest live-action film adaptation of Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's "In a Grove" samurai short story with actor Shun Oguri (Gokusen, Hana Yori Dango [2005], Densha Otoko, Crows Zero, Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie). The announcement of the proposed anime and manga was made at the July 5 press conference which marked the completion of the live-action film in Tokyo. Oguri, Yuki Shibamoto, Kei Tanaka, Kyosuke Yabe, Hiroki Matsukata, director Hiroyuki Nakano, and producer Mataichiro Yamamoto appeared at the event.

"In a Grove" inspired several Japanese and American films, including Akira Kurosawa's Rashōmon film which received an Honorary Oscar. The "Tajomaru" of the new film's title is the same Tajomaru bandit character that Rashōmon's acclaimed actor Toshirō Mifune made famous, but Oguri's role will add a twist to the identity of the Tajomaru character.

Gyoubu is adapting the cast of the 'Tajomaru' film into characters for anime and manga. Yabe, who plays the bandit leader Michikane, remarked on how Gyoubu's drawings made his character look stylish and tall, so Oguri immediately replied with a laugh that the drawings were a little too good-looking for Yabe. The rock duo B'z are performing the film's theme song "Pray."
