Ratings update (Nov 5)
[news] Oguri's "Surely Someday" set for summer
In June, it was revealed that popular actor Shun Oguri (26) is making his directorial debut with a film titled "Surely Someday." Casting rumors have surfaced since then, but the distributor Shochiku finally announced some official details this week.
The story is loosely based on the bonds between Oguri and his friends from high school. The central cast consists of actors Keisuke Koide, Ryo Katsuji, Go Ayano, Ryohei Suzuki, and Tsuyoshi Muro. Additional cast members include Takashi Okamura (of Ninety-nine), Naoto Takenaka, Fuyuki Moto, and Satoshi Tsumabuki.
The five main characters form a band, hoping to gain popularity with their original song called "Surely Someday" at their school's cultural festival. Unfortunately, a foolish incident results in them dropping out of school. With their lives seemingly at a dead end, they take on the challenge of trying to turn their lives around.
Filming took place in July and August, and the project is now in editing. The film should be completed by January of next year, with a nationwide theatrical release planned for the summer.

I'm really looking forward to this! Ganbatte Shun!
But I wonder what happened to Inoue Mao & Abe Tsuyoshi...there was a report before implicating that they're confirmed to be in the movie, and Ueto Aya too...but they're not mentioned in this article...I'm hoping they're still going to be in this movie!
Ratings update (November 3)

Tenchijin ep 44 rating was 19.5%...the drama has been airing since January this year...finally it will finish in Japan in a few weeks, there's still 3 more eps left to air.
Tokyo DOGS ep 3 aired last night, but the rating is still not disclosed yet, so we'll have to wait till later today, or tomorrow to find out how it went...hopefully it's another high rating! *fingers crossed*

[news] To Whom Will Oguri Shun Send New Year Cards?
The actor Oguri Shun appears in a new series of commercials that have recently begun to be aired. The TV ads are for next year's New Year cards sold by Japan Post Service. Oguri plays the role of a suit-clad company employee. The costars include actor Terao Akira and actress Eikura Nana. In the first 'episode' titled 'Noticing (Recognizing)', a younger employee asks the senior employee (Oguri) his address. When they had filmed the scene where the two employees talk to each other, Oguri made lots of ad-lib remarks that entertained and impressed the staff.
Oguri recalled a fond memory he had concerning New Year cards. When he was still in middle school, he had appeared in a 'Taiga' drama. ['Taiga (大河)' dramas are historical TV dramas broadcast by NHK.] After the filming, he sent New Year cards to actor Takenaka Naoto, who had played the lead role in the drama. "For a couple of years I wrote to Takenaka-san 'Happy New Year. This is Oguri. I played the character 'Sakichi'. Takenaka-san still remembered. I was really happy when he told me 'You and I are New Year card friends.'"
[In Japanese New Year cards are called 'nengajo (年賀状)' and are a important part of Japanese culture. In the cards people usually write 'Akemashite omedeto-gozaimasu (lit. 'Let's celebrate the arrival of a new year.')'. The cards are sent to close relatives, friends and associates. Each year is named after an animal based on the Japanese zodiac [which in turn is based on the Chinese zodiac]. There are 12 animals that respond to the 12 year cycle; rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and boar. This year is the year of the ox, and next year (2010) will be the year of the tiger. We hope you enjoyed this Japanese culture trivia]
